The pseudo advertisement claims “Update iOS 7 and become waterproof”. The ad further explains that during exigency, phone’s power supply will be shut off by a smart-switch and corresponding components to avoid any damage to iPhone’s delicate circuitry.

Users who believed the fake advert reportedly upgraded their iphones and sunk their devices in water to test the feature, only to find that they had marred the expensive device. On being tricked and heartbroken, some have taken the route to Twitter to vent out their displeasure on being tricked. One user wrote “Ok whoever said IOS7 is waterproof GO F*** YOURSELF”.

Recently Apple announced that iOS 7 had been installed by more than 200 million users, and more than 9 million units of new iPhone 5s and iphone 5c had been sold during the launch weekend.

The pseudo advert was reportedly originated on the notorious online forum 4chan, which regularly undertakes campaigns that attempts to hijack social media to trick the public.
