There is no denying the fact that the new ios 7 has come up with some significant changes. While driving, as I was navigating using Apple’s mapping app, I missed one of my favorite attributes: the directions for each next turn presented in green boxes that resemble highway signs. Many of the changes can be termed as cosmetic, for the new Apple’s operating system, ios 7. Gone are 3 D icons that mimic real-world counterparts, for instance magazine rack for the Newsstand app. They are replaced by 2 D icons with abstract designs and pastel colors. It won’ take you long to realize that deeper down, the new iOS 7 software is the same as the one I’ve come to know. The new operating system does have many functional up gradations, but those take time to stumble upon. The best part is that even if you won’t be able to realize the changes made, you can still use your iphone the way you did before. The free update is available starting Wednesday.

ios7

The major functional up gradations are mentioned below:

  • Use of swipes in place of taps to access prime functions
  • The Control Center is the most important functional improvement. Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode, and Bluetooth can be turned on using it.
  • The DND, Do not disturb feature is easier to access
  • The Control center can also be used to control music playback and adjust the screen’s brightness
  • With new ios7 multiple apps can be easily managed simultaneously
  • The Siri voice assistant is improved too. The sound is less robotic than before
  • Voice commands can be edited
  • For walking directions, the maps app offers voice navigation
  • Web pages can be easily switched using Safari
  • Eight filters are offered by the Camera to tweak photos like Instagram

Although I dismissed the hypothesis that many of the changes as cosmetic, a few of them definitely improve functionality. Missing are those familiar bars showing strength of strength, instead you see five dots instead. These are all nice touches that make upgrading well worth it, especially for something free.
